The Mythos Murders series
The Mythos Murders is a series of high-concept, fast-paced serial killer thrillers in which each novel centres on a murderer inspired by a legend, myth or ancient belief system.
The core idea behind the series is simple but distinctive:
each killer recreates mythological narratives through spectacular, meticulously staged crime scenes, offering something markedly different from traditional police procedurals.
This approach was chosen deliberately — to move beyond familiar crime formulas and to deliver visually striking, high-impact thrillers that blend modern police work with ancient stories.
Titles in the series include:
-
The Heracles Murders (De Heraklesmoorden)
In this instalment, a serial killer models his crimes on the Twelve Labours of Heracles, translating legendary feats into brutal contemporary murders. Awarded Silver –second place – in the NV Thrillergids Readers’ Favourites (thrillerguide) -
The Valhalla Murders (De Valhallamoorden)
Inspired by Norse mythology, this novel draws on stories surrounding Odin and Loki, weaving mythic chaos into a modern killing spree. Longlisted by Thrillzone for Best Dutch-language Thriller of 2024 -
The Lucifer Murders (De Lucifermoorden)
Here, the killer turns to Christian mythology and the Old Testament, using biblical symbolism and moral absolutism as a blueprint for murder.
Series DNA & Reader Appeal
While each book can be read as a standalone thriller, the series is connected by a recurring police team, creating a clear narrative throughline across the novels.
This continuity invites readers to follow the investigators from one case to the next, encouraging strong series loyalty and repeat readership.
The novels are set in recognisable Flemish locations, grounding the stories firmly in Belgium. For international readers, this setting offers an exotic yet realistic backdrop — familiar enough to feel authentic, different enough to stand out.
After all, not every blood-soaked thriller has to take place in Scandinavia or London. :-)
